Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History Presents "Ask the Author Day"
KENNESAW, GA – The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History is sponsoring its first “Ask the Author Day” to be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday March 25, 2006. Local authors who have written books on a variety of local and interesting subjects will be available to talk with museum patrons and answer questions about their books in addition to signing copies of their books. The event is free with museum admission. Among the authors to be featured are:
Kenneth H. Thomas, Jr. has been the Atlanta Journal-Constitution historian/genealogist columnist since 1977. Mr. Thomas is also a historian for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. He is the author of Columbus, Georgia in Vintage Postcards and Images of America: Fort Benning.
Dr. David Wiggins is a retired educator having served for thirty years in the Carroll County School System. Dr. Wiggins is the author of Carroll and Haralson Counties in Vintage Postcards; Remembering Georgia’s Confederates and Georgia’s Monuments and Cemeteries (to be released in April). He is currently writing More Georgia Confederates.
Allen W. Sims a native of Wartrace, Tennessee, served as a member of the 101st Airborne Division and 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970. Mr. Sims has authored Ambush: Memories and Photos of a Combat Squad Leader and The Ancestry of Allen Wright Sims.
Patrice Shelton Lassiter a graduate of Spelman College, is an author and businesswoman. Ms. Lassiter authored Generations of Black Life in Kennesaw and Marietta, Georgia and in 2004 released her latest book A Place to Remember; A Journey of African Americans in Cobb County Georgia, featuring the City of Acworth.
Estelle Ford-Williamson is a writer and teacher in north Georgia and former UPI reporter. Ms. Ford-Williamson’s research into period customs, from railroading to women’s roles resulted in her work Abbeville Farewell: A Novel of Early Atlanta and North Georgia.
Rebecca Nash Paden a former reporter for Atlanta Journal Constitution and Cobb County newspaper’s, has created in partnership with the photography of retired Atlanta Journal Constitution photographer, Joe McTyre, three pictorial histories. Their works are Marietta 1833-2000, Historic Roswell Georgia, and Cobb County.
Dick Hillman, Sallie Loy and Pat Cates are the coauthors of The Southern Railway Future Collections and The Southern Railway. Mr. Hillman, Ms. Loy and Mr. Cates are currently archivists at the Southern Museum after careers in railroad management, healthcare and education respectively.
