Civil War Music Show

Historical Society Lecture Series
Presented by the Mars Hill Presbyterian Church along with other area churches, the Kennesaw Historical Society and the Southern Museum will host this live presentation of music from the Civil War era. Popular songs of the time such as ‘Dixie,’ ‘Goober Peas’ and ‘Battle Hymn of the Republic’ will be performed at this special presentation.
Rare Videos of the General

Historical Society Lecture Series
Rare videos of the Civil War locomotive, the General, will be viewed during this special presentation sponsored by the Southern Museum in conjunction with the Kennesaw Historical Society. The 1911 short silent movie Railroad Raiders of ’62 will be shown as well as various clips, including footage from the 1972 placement of the General in what is now the Southern Museum.

Fee: $50 for groups of 15-50; additional charge of $40 for groups of more than 50 people (Requests for programs outside the local area will be charged an additional fee to cover mileage and staff expenses)
1) Life of the Civil War Soldier
Program Length: 30 min. • Group size: 15 – 100 people
An interactive program exploring the daily life of a Civil War soldier with the help of reproduction Confederate and Union uniforms, equipment and 19th Century artifacts.2) The Great Locomotive Chase
Program Length: 45 min. • Group size: 15 – 100 people
The Great Locomotive Chase is one of the most daring railroad adventures in history. Follow Andrews’ Raiders, who were among the first to receive the Medal of Honor, in this exciting audio-visual presentation. The General’s long history will also be explored.3) Casting a New South: The Glover Machine Works
Program Length: 45 min. • Group size: 15 – 100 people
This audio-visual presentation details the story of the Glover Machine Works of Marietta, Georgia, from working factory to museum exhibit. The role the factory played in the industrialization of the South and how locomotives were constructed is detailed.4) The Southern Museum
Program Length: 20 - 30 min. • Group size: 15-100 people
This audio-visual presentation provides an overview of the exhibits, archival resources and educational opportunities available to visitors of the Southern Museum. In 2003 the museum opened after a $6 million expansion and is a member of the prestigious Smithsonian affiliations program.
